I think some of our churches have a disease. It causes the pastor to look for God everywhere except for in the Bible. Pick your favorite movie, song, or artist; talk extensively about the movie, song, and actors; quote the movie or song; allude to spiritual ideas, pepper it with a few Bible verses and you have what passes for a sermon in a lot of churches. No wonder the church is so Biblically illiterate. Whether they realize it or not, our preachers are teaching that the Bible isn’t interesting or powerful enough to stand on it’s own. They are saying, the only use for the Bible is to prop up our own ideas and preconceived notions! The Bible has become the book we stick under the short leg of the wobbly table of culture.

Every scripture is inspired by God and useful for teachingfor reprooffor correctionand for training in righteousnessthat the person dedicated to God may be capable and equipped for every good work

2 Timothy 3:16,17

The Bible can and will stand on it’s own… if you let it.
